Here at Cosy Craft Club, I love to use crafters as a force for good! I aim to run a charity craft appeal every year, to put all those busy hands to good use to help other people. Last year I asked for knitted and crocheted squares, which I made into two blankets for Knit for Peace (you can see the finished blankets here). And this year I'm asking you again to help out, this time by knitting and crocheting hats for the Innocent Smoothie Big Knit.
These are some hats I knitted for a previous Big Knit campaign
What is the Big Knit?
Innocent Smoothies started their Big Knit campaign back in 2003. They asked crafters to knit and crochet little hats that fitted on the top of their smoothie bottles. And they charged 25p extra for a bottle with a little hat on, with the extra proceeds going to Age UK. The appeal has run regularly ever since, and has raised over £3.2million which has helped Age UK to provide support for older people who need it the most!
What do I need to do?
To join in with our appeal, please knit or crochet one or more little hats and send them to me. The hats can be of any design (I've listed a few places where you can find patterns below) but must fit on top of an Innocent Smoothie bottle. They are mostly quite quick and simple to make, so they make a nice little craft project! Once you've made your hat(s), please email me at hello@cosycraft.club and I'll let you know my address to send it/them to. Can we reach 100 hats?!
These are a couple of hats that were knitted at a recent craft club night (I made the cupcake but not the dinosaur!)
Knitting and crochet hat patterns
There are lots of places you can find hat patterns, ranging from a simple little bobble hat to a unicorn or ice cream! So depending on your skill and confidence, you'll be sure to find a pattern that you can make. Perhaps you could join up with a friend or two and have a making session together?!
Here are some of my favourite places to find hat patterns:
- Innocent Smoothie Big Knit website
- Jo's Big Knit
- Ravelry
- Pinterest (I've made a board of patterns, or these are others such as this board or this board)
- Top Crochet Patterns (ironically these are knitting patterns!)
I'll be knitting and crocheting along, and sharing my makes on the Cosy Craft Club Instagram and Facebook pages so do check there for inspiration and motivation!
Happy crafting!
