Wet felting
Now you've got your wet felting kit, now what?! Here's some guidance as well as wet felting inspiration to get you on your way if you want to do more.
My experience of wet felting
Wet felting basically involves agitating wool fibres until they mesh up into a solid "felted" fabric. Whilst I enjoyed making the wet felted coastal scene that our kit makes, I was a little unsure about how to start and what to do. The instructions in the kit are comprehensive, but it is often best to see a craft like this in action, which is why I've made a video for you!
This is my second attempt with the kit, and I have to admit that I was rushing a little when I made the video so I didn't put as much care into the placement of the wool as I could have done. I think that my finished piece could have done with some more accent strands on the top to give more detail. Watch the video below to see how the dry wool changes when it gets wet and begins to felt. And don't be afraid to layer up your colours to give interesting effects once felted.
Allow 2-3 hours for this craft. You can split it into 2 chunks: laying down the picture and felting it, but the felting stage all needs to happen in one session so allow time for this!

Wet felting inspiration
I always love to be inspired in a craft by people who know what they're doing! So here are some people that I follow on Instagram - take a look at their feeds and see if there's anything that you'd like to emulate!
@natashasmarttextiles - Natasha's workshops look so fun! They seem to involve a lot of bouncing small yoga balls, all in the creation of beautiful bags and more. If I lived in the area I think I'd definitely sign up!
Natasha has also written two books on wet felting: Wet Felting and Three-Dimensional Wet Felting, which might be a good next step if you want to take your wet felting further.
@gilliangladrag - Gillian sells a lovely range of wet felting kits. I thought they were a bit too involved for a first go at wet felting, but if you've loved making your coastal scene, why not take a look and have a go?!
@fatpoppycat - in amongst a whole host of fabric crafts and mosaics, you'll find a few videos of Rachel making wet felted vases (such as this one). I just really enjoyed the videos (so I thought you might as well) and the finished results are so beautiful!
@margaretjanedesigns - Christie is a felter who makes all kinds of gorgeous vases, hangings and more! Definitely one to get you inspired with the things you can do with wet felting!
I also love this little video which shows you how you can wet felt a little vessel on an orange!
As ever, I've also created a Pinterest board of tutorials, tips and inspiration! Click the picture below to see what I've pinned for you :)
