Introducing our arm knitting kit

Welcome to the Cosy Craft Club's arm knitting month! We really want to encourage you to have a go at arm knitting, and we'll be sharing the key things you need to know to get started. You can find all our arm knitting posts in one place here.

Today we're taking a look at our arm knitting kit from Cat’s Creation Somerset! This kit uses your arms instead of knitting needles to create a warm, snuggly snood. It’s a pretty quick make, and the wool is lovely and squishy :)

The kit comes in this reuseable cotton drawstring bag, and is our simplest kit yet as it just contains a massive ball of this extra-thick yarn and instructions!

The instructions have lots of pictures and take you through the process of creating the snood step by step. One little tip though: go to the toilet before you start as you can’t really stop mid-way through! (unless you take it with you) I’ve made this video to show you what casting on and arm knitting a few rows looks like.

The knit comes together really quickly and in no time you’ll have something like this on your arm. You can start to see the repeating knit pattern here. It’s a very loose knit but has a lovely repetition to it.

Keep going until it’s long enough to wrap around your neck twice (with a little wiggle room to get it over your head) or until you get to near the end of the ball of yarn, and then you can cast off which is very similar to a normal knitting cast off. The instructions then take you through the final steps for joining the two ends so that you have a big loop, and your snood is finished! Here is me modelling mine:

I didn’t think that the loose loopy style of this knit would be something that I would really like, but I actually love my snood. I wear it all the time! It’s very soft and warm and is perfect now that the temperatures are falling and we are hurtling towards winter.

If you’d like to have a go at making your own arm knitted snood, you can buy this kit here. It’s a really quick, fun craft and the results are just lovely and snuggly!
