Meet the maker: Becky from Hazel & Blue

One of the things I love about Cosy Craft Club is getting to know the lovely makers behind the kits that we sell. I'm lucky enough to have met Becky, the lady behind this month’s Hazel & Blue candle making kit, and had a lovely cup of tea and a chat as she lives not far from me. She is so lovely and friendly!
I’ve asked her a few questions so you can get to know her a little too. Read on to find out all about her…
Please can you introduce yourself!
Hi I’m Becky and I own a candle making business in Wiltshire. We make modern eco friendly candle making kits and apothecary candles and gifts.
How did you get into candle making?
I loved making things and after buying a candle making kit (it wasn’t very good) I started making candles as a hobby and would give them all away to friends and family. I loved making candles so much, I was encouraged to sell them at my local market, before moving online.
What do you enjoy about it?
I find making candles very meditative and relaxing. From prepping the containers, to stirring the wax and pouring and finally labelling each one, it’s a pure joy!
What are you working on at the moment?
I’m working on our Christmas collection, which includes a new Christmas advent tealight kit. I’m really excited about it as I wanted to create a kit which gave you an opportunity to do it as a family or a group to reflect and talk about your intentions.
What is your favourite thing that you have made?
Every single candle I make is special to me. I particularly like making candles in ceramics or porcelain, they really make a candle special as they are normally handmade containers and so beautiful to work with.
I also have a zipped purse I made when I taught myself to sew, it’s lined inside and has a zip! I was very impressed when I made it and I still use it today 10 years later!
Where do you get your inspiration from?
I love looking at trends and colours and find inspiration from nature and the general feeling around us in the world. At the moment people are feeling thoughtful and reflective following quite a traumatic year.
What are your top tips for someone who is starting to learn candle making?
Have fun and don’t think to much about doing it right, follow the instructions and make sure your room is at room temperature. Also enjoy your results! The Best Bit about candle making is you get to relax and unwind with your candle afterwards!
What other crafts do you love to do?
I’ve recently brought an embroidery kit and I’ve been having a go at doing this lately.
Can you tell us one random fact about yourself?
I meet Princess Anne at Buckingham Palace about 4 years ago through my healthcare work for a charity It was amazing, walking through the palace rooms and I even used the ladies toilet in a bedroom, it was surreal and definitely a highlight of my life!
